The Manchurian Candidate is a Cold War suspense thriller directed by John Frankenheimer, 1962. It is based on the book of the same name by Richard Condon. It is about the brainwashing of the son of a prominent right-wing political family as an unwitting assassin in an international communist conspiracy. 

The film was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Film Editing as well as Best supporting Actress. Angela Lansbury won a Golden Globe for best supporting actress.
